Music Informatics Research
Music Informatics is an interdisciplinary field treating at a wide range of problems lying on the boundary between music and various scientific disciplines such as computer science, cognitive science, mathematics, and psychology. The heart of the field is the many new application areas whose study requires only the willingness to view music as data, whether in audio, graphical, performance, or symbolic form.
Examples of MI applications include musical accompaniment systems, optical score recognition, music audio analysis, computer-driven analysis of harmony, motive, and musical structure, and the synthesis of musical expression from score. The field is young and changing rapidly, so it is likely that many of the most important MI applications have not yet been thought of.
