On January 3, 2008, SLIS faculty member Katy Börner presented "Science from Above," a talk and tour at the American Museum of Science and Energy in conjunction with the display of her "Places and Spaces: Mapping Science" exhibit. The museum, located in Oak Ridge, Tennessee, housed the exhibit from September 7, 2007, until January 7, 2008.
The Places & Spaces website calls the project "an exhibition created to demonstrate the power of maps to understand, navigate, and manage not only physical spaces, but also abstract information spaces." In the past two years, the "Places and Spaces" exhibit has traveled near and far, stopping at the New York Public Library as well as Bloomington, Indiana's Monroe County Public Library.
Following Börner's American Museum of Science and Energy (AMSE) talk, she met with Walter L. Warnick, the Director of the U.S. Department of Energy Office of Scientific and Technical Information (OSTI) and his colleagues to discuss potential collaborations (see photo above).
