Pioneering usability expert Dr. Ben Shneiderman will discuss his latest contribution to scholarly literature on human-computer interaction in two presentations in central Indiana. His appearances at Ball State University on April 21 and at Indianapolis' Intech Park Conference Center the following day will address issues he raises in his most recent book titled Leonardo's Laptop: Human Needs and the New Computing Technologies.
Shneiderman, a professor in the University of Maryland's Department of Computer Science, has charted a distinguished career in the fields of computer and information sciences. His advocacy of human-friendly interfaces predates the 1980 publication of his first book Software Psychology: Human Factors in Computer and Information Systems. In 1987, his second book Designing the User Interface: Strategies for Effective Human-Computer Interaction, now in its third edition, established many of the benchmarks for the then burgeoning human-computer interface design community.
His contributions and service to the study of human-computer interaction (HCI) have continued unabated, and he now enjoys celebrity status on the HCI circuit. The former Indiana University and State University of New York educator serves on the editorial advisory boards of several leading HCI journals, consults for many of the country's Fortune 500 companies, and lectures extensively.
