Associate Professor of Information Science Katy Börner and Associate Dean for Research and Victor H. Yngve Associate Professor of Information Science Javed Mostafa co-edited a special issue of the International Journal of Digital Libraries (JoDL). Brner also was a guest editor for a special issue of an MIT Press journal, PRESENCE: Teleoperators and Virtual Environments.
Brner and Mostafa edited a March 2005 JoDL special issue on information visualization interfaces for retrieval and analysis. "The Steadily increasing volume and complexity of information stored in digital libraries (DLs) demand powerful support information access and sense making," the SLIS faculty wrote in their introduction to the issue. "Advances for developing enhanced interfaces for improving retrieval, manipulation, and management of data stored for DLs."
Brner, with Raquel Navarro-Prieto of the Universitat Oberta de Catalunya, co-edited a February 2005 special issue for PRESENCE on the topic, collaborative information visualization environments (CIVEs). The issue contains the article From Spatial Proximity to Semantic Coherence: A Quantitative Approach to the Study of Group Dynamics in Collaborative Virtual Environments, coauthored by Brner and Chaomei Chen.
PRESENCE is the "first journal for serious investigators of teleoperators and virtual environments, incorporating perspectives from physics to philosophy."
