A lot of words could be used to describe 2016 at the School of Informatics and Computing. “Boring” would not be among them.

SoIC continued to sit at the vanguard of technology research while also enjoying the kind of changes that will push the School into an innovative future. A new dean rose to leadership. A new home rose from the ground. A new program in Intelligent Systems Engineering welcomed its first cohort of students, and SoIC accepted a role in a Grand Challenge that could change the future of health care.

Faculty and students earned major awards, the School hosted a research showcase that put the full breadth of the work being down at SoIC on display, and records were broken at graduation and the career fair. But those are just a sampling of the accomplishments and stories that filled 2016.

The future of SoIC couldn’t be brighter, and the strong foundation of our programs were strengthened by the work being done inside and outside of the classroom. Here are the some of the biggest stories from the School of Informatics and Computing from the past 12 months.
