A good day always starts with a good breakfast.
So does a great celebration.
LuddyFest, the week-long celebration of Luddy Hall, the new home of the School of Informatics, Computing, and Engineering, kicked off Monday morning with a student breakfast in the first-floor lobby that featured granola bars, breakfast pastries, cookies, juice, and much more.
“We’re so excited to see the enthusiasm our students had for our first LuddyFest event,” said Raj Acharya, dean of SICE. “This celebration is something we’ve been looking forward to for months, and it was fantastic to see so many students who wanted to be a part of our kickoff event.”
The Department of Information and Library Science also contributed a pop-up library near the student breakfast, providing information, books, and more. Details about the SICE Scavenger Hunt, which culminates Friday morning and features an array of prizes, were also released.
LuddyFest will continue Tuesday when John Shoemaker, the chairman of the Board of Directors at Extreme Networks, Inc., will be the featured guest at the Shoemaker Technology Inventor and Entrepreneur Speaker Series in the Shoemaker Innovation Center in Room 2150 from 5:35-7 p.m. Shoemaker will share the story of his career with aspiring student innovators and entrepreneurs.
Other events planned for LuddyFest include a talk from Stanford University Music and Computer Science Professor Ge Wang on the Humanist Engineer, the unveiling of Amatria, a sentient art installation from world-renowned artist Philip Beesley, Research Horizons showcasing the innovative work being conducted at SICE and featuring a keynote address from LVMH Chief Digital Officer Ian Rogers, the official dedication of Luddy Hall, and more.
Luddy Hall is named after IU alumnus Fred Luddy, the founder and chief product officer for ServiceNow who also developed the concept of platform as a service in cloud computing, who provided an $8 million gift for the construction of the building. Ground was broken on the $39.8 million facility in October 2015 and was completed on schedule.
