C291 System Programming with C and Unix

Credits: 1.5

Prerequisite(s): CSCI-A 201 or C 200 or C 211 or INFO-I 211.

This course provides an introduction to programming in a Unix (Linux) environment using the C language. The key ideas to be discussed are: the Unix shell, file system and basic shell commands; the emacs text editor; and the C programming language.

      Supplementary Description: This course provides students with a comprehensive study of the C programming language. This course is for programmers who have had experience in any programming language or have been tasked with a C programming project. Topics include variables, data types, functions, control structures, pointers, strings, arrays and dynamic allocation principles. Comprehensive hands-on exercises are integrated throughout to reinforce learning and develop real competency.
